All by her Lonesome

Saskatchewan is full of gravel and grass roads. You never know which road google is going to lead you down on a wild goose chase. You are just about to give up hope when you come across a beauty like this.

Mount Joy is a beautiful one room school. The skill that went behind building this school I believe is a lost art.

Mount Joy was built in 1912. It served the community for students in grades 1-8 and also hosted Sunday services and Sunday school classes.

This building is in fairly good condition considering the age and the fact that a lot of the windows are gone so the elements and the birds can get in. There has been some vandalism but thankfully a lot of damage hasn’t been done.

For some weird reason I like taking pictures of outhouses. I can’t imagine being a 5 year old having to run to the outhouse in the freezing Saskatchewan winters.

These wonderful one room schools are responsible for the education my grandparents received and for helping shape the nation we are today.

Frozen in Time

There is something about a ghost town that just seems frozen in time. It’s like everyone just vanished and time just stops. Bents sk is a wonderful example of this. The first time I got to go to Bents was nearly a year ago to the day you are just in awe of the town. According to Wikipedia Bents was established in 1905. There are a handful of buildings still standing and there is the huge sentinel standing overlooking it all.

This trip to see Bents had a sad feeling to it. The Bents elevator suffered a huge blow this winter during a extremely strong storm. She suffered major damage.

This tall prairie giant has taken a beating over nearly 100 years and finally gave in. This building is no longer safe to enter and I am sure that has the land owners trying to figure out what to do with her.

Doing a bit of research I found that the longer building was a hall. Bents seemed to be a bit of a party town back in the day.

Peaking into the store it feels like they are all set up ready to go and just waiting for a delivery to arrive so they can stock the shelves. The shoes were just sitting on the counter exactly as the picture shows.

We stuck to the main paths and didn’t enter any buildings. The grass is at least knee length and you never know what dangers it could be hiding. Nails, well holes, glass etc….

I did read a article that said there used to be two really old gas pumps in front of the store but someone came and stole them. I wish people would look but not touch.

These ghost towns are an important part of our history.

Welcome to our Adventure

A wise man once told me “Find Your passion go enjoy it or you are just existing”. Sometimes in this crazy world we forget to enjoy life. We get so bogged down with work, finances and everyday issues then before we know it time has flown by. Kids are grown and moved out and you are looking at yourself going what have I done.

This pandemic that our whole world is going through right now should be teaching us some very important lessons.

1. That everything can change in a blink of a eye

2. How important our families are (as most of us have gone without seeing them)

3. That our government can and will in force certain laws even if we don’t agree with them

4. AND WE NEED TO BE CREATIVE!!!!

well we can’t travel out of our country and some can’t even travel out of their provinces

or even health region We will go nuts if we just hide at home. Our mental health will suffer!!! There are ways to get out, get some sun and explore. FIND YOURSELF!!!
